Gary or “GV” as he is known by most, is a local surfer, he moved here in the early 70’s, from the Stony Brook, and never left. He started his own house painting business, Oceanside Painting, bought a house in Hampton Bays, where he settled with his wife, Allison. Many of Gary’s winters are spent traveling to Puerto Rico, Tortola, Indonesia, Mexico & other exotic places to pursue his love of surfing. Gary earned the nickname “The Mayor” for all his efforts politically in helping to preserve our beaches & allowing access for surfing. He has worked intently with the Army Corps of Engineers to help make Shinnecock Inlet safer for boating while still preserving the famous break called “Three’s”. He is a very active member of the Surfrider Foundation & has taught surfing in the Southampton Town Surf Camps.
